My experience with 2Rev has been awakening and refreshing at the same time, because this is the first time where I have gone through a process and I don’t really know where it’s going; you have to feel your way through it and I have had to be comfortable with the ambiguity. It has been messy at times.

As teachers, we explain a lot of what we’re doing, and I always assume the hows and whys were obvious, but they were not always obvious for the families.

The work has made me a little more tolerant with myself when it comes to the redesign process…Old me would be focusing in on, “Oh my gosh that one mistake.” Post-design thinking, I am thinking of it as an opportunity to redesign and try again.

I have a passion for wanting to push beyond the limits of where we are because the world is ever-changing. We need to make sure we are trying to help students to meet that. If we’re not being innovative, we’re not going to get there. The mindset piece was attractive to me, [especially] because mindset affects the work significantly.

I really believe that it needs to be a priority to find a way to communicate this information [about the programs available to VBCPS students] to have resources available for everyone, especially under-represented groups…

The biggest learning piece is from a leadership standpoint — whether working with parents, community, teachers, or students in my role — just really understanding the idea of giving and getting voice from people. Making sure everyone is heard and really understanding that listening gives you a lot of good information in order to make a better decision.
